RIDE A SAN FRANCISCO LRV

San Francisco is the only American city west of the Mississippi to keep some of its pre-World War II streetcar system. It was rehabilitated with modern LRVs and a major tunnel extension in the late 1970s. This program covers perhaps the most interesting of the five surviving lines, the M Ocean View. The line includes traditional street running, center of roadway and private right-of-way. Then the LRVs couple into trains and run in tunnel heavy-rail style. In keeping with the image of San Francisco even the underground stations are picturesque.
